Have your blood pressure taken on both arms. There should not be more than a difference of 10 points from one side to the other. If the readings are 10 points or more different, you are more at risk for a cardiovascular event (stroke, heart attack, etc.) I’ve found that treating the Vagus Nerve through Retained Neonatal Reflex Integration has helped balance many of my patients’ abnormal blood pressure readings.
If it is necessary to take antibiotics for some reason, take probiotics also, but take them opposite of the antibiotics. For example if antibiotics are taken in the morning, take probiotics in the evening.
Only water is water. Juice is not water, pop is not water, and flavored water is not water. To figure out how much water you should drink in a day use this formula:
- Your body weight/2 = # of ounces of water per day
- Ex. 200lbs/2 = 100 ounces of water per day
- When drinking water, swish it around in your mouth a few times. This activates the receptors in your mouth to send the message that water is coming. Your GI tract will absorb and use the water more efficiently. This is also why chewing your food is important, aside from the fact that it does help break it down.
Avoid supplements (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, shakes, etc.) that have magnesium stearate or stearic acid in them. You are only getting about 20% of the amount of the nutrient on the label because the stearate coats the nutrients and you have to get through the coating before the nutrient is accessible. For those with poor digestion, absorption of nutrients is probably less than 20%. Look at the ingredients of the supplement (under the table of nutrients) to see if it says stearate.
When looking for B-vitamins or multi-vitamins look at B6 and B12. If B6 says Pyridoxine HCL or B12 says cyanocobalamin put it back on the shelf and walk away. If B6 is labeled pyridoxal-5- phosphate and B12 is adenosylcobalamin or methylcobalamin, then get it. Don’t forget to check for stearate.
When exercising for weight loss stay in the aerobic range. Use this formula from Dr. Phil Maffetone to be in that fat burning range:

3. Take this number and correct it by the following:
-If you do not workout, subtract another 5 beats
-If you workout only 1-2 days a week, only subtract 2 or 3 beats
-If you workout 3-4 times a week keep the number where it is
-If you workout 5-6 times a week keep the number where it is
-If you are over about 55 years old or younger than about 25 years old, add another 5 beats to whatever number you now have
-If you are about 60 years old or older OR if you are about 20 years old or younger, add an additional 5 beats to the corrected number you now have
This is your maximum heart rate to burn fat efficiently. Try to get as close to this number without going over when you are exercising.
“It’s Genetics” is not an acceptable answer anymore. We now know that we can change how genes are expressed, this is called epigenetics. The expression of genes can be changed by diet, exercise, sleep and other lifestyle choices. Our lifestyle choices control our genes, not the other way around.
Static stretching is out, dynamic stretching is in. Static stretching before activities is a thing of the past. Instead do the movements of the activity or sport in a slower controlled manner. This will warm up the body, reduce injuries, and improve performance.
Eat as many fruits and vegetables as you can, then eat more. Yes you also need protein and carbs, but in general, we all get enough of those. However, our fruit and veggie intake suffers most often. Fruits and vegetables provide most of the vitamins and minerals that are in multivitamins and they taste better. Use Environmental Working Group’s Pesticide Report to avoid dirty food.
Always get a copy of your lab work and imaging reports. They are yours, you paid for them, and it’s much easier to get a copy for your other doctors when you have your own copy.
Checking oral pH or first morning urine pH is an easy way to assess your body’s health. Oral pH should be around 7.2-7.5 and first morning urine should be above 7.2 and below 8.0. pH test strips are relatively inexpensive and easy to use.
There are low force adjustments that are another option to the “typical adjustment” and work just as well. Fearing the noises and thrusts is not a good excuse for avoiding the chiropractor, there are other ways to get the job done.
Doing the same exercises will lead to injuries. Exercise in all the planes, not just forward and backward. Move left, right, and at different angles.
Avoid soy. Avoiding gluten and dairy products may also be a good idea but avoiding soy will make a huge difference in health.
Instead of using Tylenol for fevers in children, find a good Calcium/Magnesium supplements and give one every 15 minutes until they have loose stool then back off. The supplement will help ease joint aches and muscle cramps while allow the body to break the fever naturally without the liver problems from the OTC medication.
